USE CASES — HOME OFFICES & STUDIOS

Garden yurts for home offices, studios & creative work

A handcrafted timber yurt at the bottom of the garden — a beautiful, peaceful place to work, write, paint, record or design. Easy to install, year-round usable, no planning headache.

Step outside, leave the house behind

Working from home is the new normal — but working from the kitchen table is exhausting. A garden yurt gives you a proper, separated workspace 30 steps from the back door, with the focus of a private studio and the atmosphere of a retreat.

We build yurts for writers, illustrators, podcasters, painters, music producers, designers, therapists, software engineers and any creative who needs a quiet, beautiful place to think.

Our customers use them as solo offices, photography studios, art rooms, music rooms, podcast booths and double-duty spaces (office on weekdays, yoga room on Sundays). The acoustics are warm, the natural light is gorgeous, and they’re cheap to heat with a small wood stove.

Most home-office yurts are 4-5m — big enough for a desk, bookshelf, seating area and stove, but small enough to fit in a typical Irish back garden without dominating it.

Why your work life will thank you

Why a yurt beats the spare bedroom, the converted garage or the standard garden room.

Beautiful natural light

Big double-glazed window units and the soft canvas glow give you all-day natural light that's flattering for video calls and a joy to paint or write in.

Real separation from home life

Closing the door behind you matters more than people expect. A 30-second walk outside is the closest thing to a real commute — it switches your brain into work mode.

No planning permission needed

Garden offices under a certain footprint don't require planning permission in most counties. Yurts are easy to remove if you ever move house — much lower commitment than a built room.

What size garden office?

Sizes our home-office customers choose. Most go for a 4m or 5m.

4 metre

Solo office, focused space.

Big enough for a desk, chair, bookshelf and small wood stove. Perfect for writers, programmers and anyone who works at a single workstation.

Office + meeting / studio.

Adds room for a sofa or second chair, art easel, podcast desk, or a small client meeting area. The flexible sweet spot for most home-studio use cases.

6 metre

Shared or multi-use studio.

Two desks, a recording corner, or a proper painting/print studio. Good for couples both working from home or businesses with two team members.

Common questions

Do I need planning permission for a garden yurt?

Generally no — under most county exempt development rules, a garden office under 25 m² doesn’t need permission as long as it’s not used as separate living accommodation.

Will I be warm enough in winter?

Yes. With our sheep’s wool insulation option and the addition of a small wood-burning stove. Most customers tell us the office is the warmest, cosiest part of the property by November.

Can I run electrics and internet?
Yes — we leave a clean entry point for an armoured electrical feed and ethernet. Most customers run a single 16A spur from the house, more than enough for lights, a heater, computer setup and a wifi extender.
How long does the build take?

From order to install is typically 6-10 weeks depending on workload. The install itself takes one day on site. Add a few days if we’re also building the timber platform.

What does a home-office yurt cost?

A 5m garden office with insulation, double glazed window, solid timber door, wood stove and insulated platform typically lands in the €13,000–€17,000 range. Use the quote builder for your exact number.
